Mohamad S. Jaafar, MD
Dr. Mohamad S. Jaafar trained at the American University of Beirut and completed clinical fellowships in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Boston Children’s Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital.
In 1983, he established the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Service at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. From 1986 to 2024, he was a member of the faculty at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., serving as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology from 1993 to 2019. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics at The George Washington University, and Weinstein Professor and Chairman Emeritus at Children’s National Hospital.
Dr. Jaafar has served, or continues to serve, on the Board of Directors of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the Children’s Eye Foundation, the International Strabismological Association, the International Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Council, and the Council of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
