Burton Kushner, MD

Burton Kushner, MD, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, University of Wisconsin in Madison, did a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer. He returned to the University of Wisconsin and has been on their faculty since 1974 and has been the Director of their Pediatric Eye and Adult Strabismus Clinic. He has been Program Secretary of AAPOS, Editor in Chief of the Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Founding Editor of the Journal of AAPOS, and Co-Editor in Chief of Binocular Vision and Ocular Motility. Dr. Kushner has published more than 225 peer reviewed manuscripts, authored 41 textbook chapters, edited three textbooks, and was sole author of another two textbooks. He has given 30 named lectures and received many awards, including the Parks Bronze Medal, the Heed Award, the Bressler Prize, and the Senior Honor Award from both the AAO and the AAPOS. He has been listed in every annual edition of Best Physicians in America since its first publication in 1993, and he was listed in the 20 most innovative pediatric surgeons alive by Top Masters in Health Care Administration. His passion has been understanding the mechanism behind and treatment of complex strabismus, and the training of residents and fellows.
