Resident Welcome Letter

Congratulations, and welcome to ophthalmology!

New Resident and Colleague,

As you embark on this next phase of your medical training, you will learn invaluable skills,

meet new friends and mentors, and ultimately choose your career path. We would like to invite you to learn more about and consider our chosen field Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus.

Pediatric ophthalmologists are in high demand across the nation and enjoy excellent compensation and job security. As comprehensive specialists, we improve vision and quality of life for patients of all ages, and our surgeries span a broad spectrum.

Children are exceptionally rewarding and fun patients. Watching them grow and gain confidence with improved – changing the trajectory of their lives is likely one of the main reasons pediatric ophthalmologists report excellent job satisfaction and quality of life. There are also opportunities for international work and public health outreach.

On behalf of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, we encourage you to keep pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus in mind throughout your residency. Talk with your mentors, take advantage of the resources on our website, and keep an eye out for opportunities to explore this rewarding field.

You may just find your calling.

Sincerely,
