Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology 2021 Virtual

Starts:  Jan 4, 2021 09:00 (ET)
Ends:  Jan 29, 2021 17:00 (ET)

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for considering the Columbia University Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology (BSCO) 2021 for training of ophthalmology residents and vision scientists.

In its 80th year, BSCO is one of the nation’s oldest and most highly regarded programs of this kind. Developed by a committee of world-renowned scientists and practicing clinicians, the Basic Science Course in the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at the Columbia University Department of Ophthalmology offers clinicians and vision scientists a deep dive into the fundamentals and most recent scientific advances in ophthalmology.

Led by Andrei V. Tkatchenko, MD, PhD and Ronald H. Silverman, PhD, and with the support of our Chairman, Jack Cioffi, MD, we are pleased to offer the month-long program, which provides over 125 hours of lectures and demos by a faculty of more than 80 distinguished experts.

Due to the COVID situation, BSCO-2021 will be a virtual meeting comprised of recorded lectures, interactive round-table discussions and technical demonstrations. While the virtual format precludes hand-on wet labs and personal interaction, it offers the advantage of eliminating travel and housing costs in New York and absence of residents from the clinic for the entire month of January.

Weekly learning modules will address the following areas:

  • Retina/Ocular Oncology
  • Neuro-Ophthalmology/Pathology
  • Glaucoma/Cataract
  • Cornea/Refractive Error/Myopia Control/Ophthalmic Genetics

As in the past years, the background reading text for the course is The Basic and Clinical Science Course from The Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, San Francisco, CA.

Per person program fees, include early bird pricing through November 1st at $1,000; regular registration through December 1st at $1,200.

We look forward to seeing you!
