3rd Biennial Harvard Strabismus Symposium

When:  Sep 28, 2019 from 07:30 to 17:00 (ET)

Guest of Honor: Dr. Federico Velez
Duke University

The Harvard Strabismus Symposium is 1 day symposium that focuses on technique and
advances in strabismus surgery through a case based approach. There will be two educational
components.

The major educational theme will be focused on the strategy taken towards strabismus surgery
through the presentation of “unknown” cases to a panel of 5 skilled strabismus surgeons. In
advance of the meeting, each panelist would be given 4-5 cases to discuss informally as the
primary discussant. We would provide the initial history/presentation and first eye exam of the
patient in advance. At the meeting, the primary discussant would describe his/her surgical
approach to the case. In real time, the outcome of what actually was performed would be shared
and further discussion would ensue. Per session, there would be approximately 3-4 cases. Each
attendee will be provided a USB with the clinical presentations in advance of the symposium so
that he/she may develop an idea of how to approach the surgery and compare this with the
discussion at the meeting.

The second educational theme will be the presentation of didactic lectures by each of the
panelists. The talks will cover clinical topics that provide a framework for the cases discussed as
well as provide new insights into advances in the field of strabismus surgery and pediatric
ophthalmology.

Overall, roughly 75% of the symposium will be devoted to the presentation of unknown cases to
the panelists, and 25% will be devoted to the didactic presentations.
