Adult-Onset Esotropia
Adult-onset esotropia is a condition in which one or both eyes start to turn inward during adulthood. People who develop this problem often notice new double vision because the eyes are no longer pointing in the same direction. It can happen for several reasons, such as changes in the eye muscles with aging, nerve problems, or sometimes without a clear cause. In younger adults, the esotropia may be related to myopia and prolonged close-up work. An eye doctor can evaluate the condition and look for any underlying problems. Treatment depends on the cause and may include glasses with prisms, eye muscle surgery, or other therapies to help realign the eyes and reduce double vision.
