Botulinum Toxin Injections
Botulinum toxin injections can help correct eye misalignment (strabismus). A very small amount of medicine is injected into one of the eye muscles to relax it. When that muscle relaxes, the opposite muscle can pull the eye into a better position. This can help straighten the eyes and reduce or stop double vision. The injection is a quick procedure and is usually done in the office or as a short outpatient visit. The effect of the medicine usually lasts a few months, but in some people the improvement in eye alignment can last longer as the eye muscles adjust. This treatment may be used instead of surgery in some cases or to help improve eye alignment before or after surgery. You may discuss with you ophthalmologist whether you are a good candidate for this procedure.
