Bio

Dr. Miller is a native Texan.  He was born in Lubbock and lived several years in McAllen before moving to Rockwall (near Dallas) where he played soccer and was an honor high school graduate.

Dr. Miller graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Chemical Engineering. While there, he played rugby for the University and the Western Collegiate All-Star team.  He then obtained his medical degree at Texas Tech University where he also received an MBA in Health Organization Management.  Dr. Miller completed his internship in Internal Medicine and his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he served as Chief Resident.  Dr. Miller then received fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus with Baylor College of Medicine, at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, under the mentorship of Dr. David K Coats.

Dr. Miller, being the son of two teachers, has always had an interest in physician education, patient advocacy, and research.  As a representative of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, he routinely travels to Washington D.C. to lobby for maintaining high quality medical care for patients and improving children’s eye care.  He also has served as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the EyeWiki, the ophthalmology medical wikipedia website. Dr. Miller is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.  He currently serves on the American Orthoptic Council as the past-President where he participates as an examiner and advocates for the orthoptic profession.

Dr. Miller has participated in various research projects, including the study of Retinopathy of Prematurity, Pediatric Orbital Infections, Amblyopia and Strabismus.  He has received special recognition at national meetings for his research in Eye Muscle Mechanics.  Dr. Miller has also conducted many presentations and written a variety of papers on numerous facets of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Miller serves as a principle investigator for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG), which is the leading children’s eye research group in the country.

The foundation of Dr. Miller’s patient care philosophy is communication.  He strives to answer any question that may arise during the visit and places an emphasis on educating parents on their child’s eye condition.  His goal is to make every individual’s visit to the eye doctor an enjoyable experience.

Dr. Miller spends his free time visiting his large extended family and going to Texas Longhorn football games in Austin.  He and his wife, Christine, enjoy spending their free time with their three boys, Gavin, and twins Luke and Reese.
