Astigmatism (Definition) A refractive error caused by an abnormality in the curvature of the cornea and/or the lens
WHAT IS ASTIGMATISM ? Astigmatism occurs when the cornea or the lens is curved more in one direction than in the other. In astigmatism, t he shape of the eye is more similar to an American football than a baseball
A prescription for hyperopia will have a plus sign at the beginning (for example, +3.00). Astigmatism – This occurs when the surface curve of the eye is irregular, causing blurred or distorted vision. Glasses for astigmatism have specific numbers to show the curve strength and location of curve. A prescription for astigmatism will have several numbers and will look something like this: -2.00 +2.50 X 90, though sometimes, astigmatism can be written with a minus sign in front of the second number.
As the hemangioma grows, it can press on the surface of the eye and change the shape of the eye, known as astigmatism. Astigmatism can cause blurry or distorted vision and problems focusing ( amblyopia )
These include: Eyes that don’t look in the same direction ( strabismus ) Needing glasses to see clearly ( refractive error , myopia , hyperopia, and astigmatism ) Lazy eye or weak vision ( Amblyopia ) If these issues are found and treated early, children can have good vision
