Maynard B. Wheeler, MD

Dr. Wheeler completed his fellowship in 1973 under Drs. Robison Harley at Wills Eye Hospital and Marshall Parks at the Children’s National Hospital. In 1975, with Dr. Paul Mitchell, he founded Children’s Eye Care of Connecticut, in Hartford. He was Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Newington Children’s Hospital and Connecticut Children’s Hospital, and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut. He served as president of the Connecticut Society to Prevent Blindness 1986-88, American Orthoptic Council 1989-92, Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology 1997-98 and AAPOS 1999-2000. He received Senior Honor Awards from AAO in 2007 and AAPOS in 2010. Dr. Wheeler returned to Latin American on many occasions to teach and was a consultant for Helen Keller International, the International Eye Foundation and ORBIS. In 2002, he semi-retired to New Hampshire where he joined Dr. Christie Morse at Concord Eye Center.
